Spotify*
A digestible and customizable visual analysis of your music universe.
The challenge at hand was how can we enhance the user’s experience from solely an auditory experience to a social one.
Knowing our taste in music is a part of ourselves that we can’t visually describe, led us to wanting to explore an accompanying visually curated experience that can do so.
Through Spotify, we found an opportunity to enhance listeners experiences through a customizable visual code called, Wavelength. Along with this add on, a community page was created to connect with other listeners while being able to explore and discover new bands and artists.

Wavelength
A visual analysis code that shows and dissects people’s music tastes by genre and activity.
Each genre is color-coded differently, creating unique and personable wavelengths for each listener.
Since people’s music tastes are always evolving, listeners are able to edit their wavelengths through a new customizable scaling and tagging system.
scaling allows listeners to visually see and edit how much they listen to a genre
tagging allows listeners to label when they specifically listen to these music genres
This system would allow Spotify’s algorithm to become more personable to each user creating curated content among listeners and activity-curated playlists with their friends.
Community Page
To expand Spotify’s platform from auditory to social, we concepted a space for connection and exploring to live.
This page would allow listeners to navigate through various groups such as:
friend activity
sub-music threads
trending tags
music by city
Friend Activity & Fan Groups
To create a social aspect to Spotify’s mobile platform meant creating space for people to share was vital.
At the top of the Community page, users can view what playlist or album their friends have recently been listening to.
Fans create content and a sense of community for artists and genres. Now, there is forum groups to do exactly that in this concept update.
Music By Location
We hear the term ‘live like a local’ where travelers want to experience their trip as if they were residents. With this search option, users will be able to experience music scenes across the world based off of cities’ and the Spotify users in those areas.
Users will be able to do each of the following:
learn music facts about the city
listen to curated activity playlists pulled from users geolocations and tags
view other listeners’ public playlists
discover bands and artists that came from the area
Connecting & Making Friends
Listeners can share their wavelengths with each other, giving one another an invitation into their music analysis.
When someone opens a code it’ll direct them to the user’s profile where they can see their wavelength, current favorite songs, music sub-groups, and their saved locations.
